The Rules of Christmas Eating
These eat for your health and waistline guidelines can be applied to New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day as well:
- If it’s a buffet, look first – at everything offered – before beginning to make choices
- Use the smallest plate possible for your selections • Use a second plate for lots of greens, vegetables – just watch dressings and sauces
- Use smaller utensils for spooning onto your plate (so you take less) and for eating (so you eat with a slower pace)
- For every alcoholic beverage you drink, consume 8 ounces of water
- If it is a sit down meal, get up and move around between courses – offer to help with plate changeover
- Remember that whatever you don’t eat will be given to you to take home in a doggy bag, if you ask
- Assess how full you are periodically – getting full to the point of feeling ill is not a healthy concept
- Commit to exercising the next day
- Remember that another food fest is just a week away (New Year’s)
Merry Christmas – Happy Holidays!!
