Make a Perfect Salad

How you decide to throw together ingredients for a salad can determine its nutrient density:

  • Make it interesting by using at least 4 different sources of leafy greens 
  • Include a variety of fresh vegetables 
  • Use one cup of healthy grains like brown rice, quinoa, wheat berries or whole grain orzo for every 6 cups of greens. 
  • Add cooked or steamed veggies too 
  • If it's a meal, add a protein like grilled fish, beans, grilled skinless chicken. 
  • Add a fruit like mandarin oranges, cranberries, grapes, cut up apples 
  • Use olive oil as the dressing base and flavor with a vinegar
