Healthy Changes at Freedom High School

Our Coordinator at Freedom High School in Tampa is celebrating the removal of fryers from the cafeteria!! It’s a huge step by the school, in terms of healthier cooking methods and food offerings. Mary Kathryn is also excited that the cafeteria manager seems more willing to work with her on grants to fund a healthier cafeteria in general. Mary Kathryn plans to tackle healthier vending machine options and she hopes to involve local chefs to team up with her and persuade school officials to implement additional healthier changes in the school’s cafeteria lunch program.

Mary Kathryn is also hoping to see some big losses among participants in her Biggest Loser program. Though summer typically results in some participants dropping out, Mary Kathryn is counting on a robust comeback and some major weight loss numbers among the students who continue with the challenge.

Tip of the day: Using an egg white wash and Panko bread crumbs and baking at a high temperature in the oven (425 degrees) can yield some healthy "fried" chicken and fish!!
