The California Walnut Board

The California Walnut Board, as a major sponsor, along with affiliated sponsors American Institute for Cancer Research, HealthCorps and The New York State Dietetic Association and patron sponsors that included the Pear Bureau NorthWest and USA Pears, the Wild Blueberry Association of North America and USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council hosted a two day health symposium in NYC – Food for Your Whole Life. On day one, this past Sunday, nearly 1100 individuals filled Ballroom 5 at the Grand Hyatt to hear pearls of health from world-renowned nutrition experts including Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr. Michael Roizen, Dr. David Katz, Dr. Roger Clemens, and Brian Wansink, PhD. Other presenters included chef and author Rocco Dispirito, food author Mollie Katzen, and fitness expert Petra Kolber. From health screenings to a variety of exhibit tables and lectures, participants were able to experience a day filled with vital information and great tasting snacks.

The following day dieticians, health experts and press attended a full day symposium that included discussions on pregnancy and nutrition, mindless eating, successful aging and how nutrition can turn genes on and off.

Clearly all the experts seem to agree on a couple of givens:

  • You really are what you eat
  • Small changes can yield big results
  • Put one healthy habit in to place and very often more health habits will follow
  • Most Americans need to eat less and move more

Beyond those, many of the experts really did have some personal health wisdom to share.
