Beware Late Season Heat

In certain geographic locations around the nation, the heat can persist through September and even October. With outdoor school sports in full swing, hydration is the key to avoiding heat-related health risks. Remember that your body heat can suddenly rise, putting you at risk for heat exhaustion so listen to your body cues. By the time you are unable to sweat to cool off your body, you may be in a life-threatening situation.

If you feel faint or very hot, move to a cool shaded location. Hydrate before during and after workouts. Wear loose, light colored cotton breathable clothing when possible. Take "cooling off breaks" as often as you can.
