Benefits of Basil?

Well first it’s a member of the mint family, and there are actually 50 types of basil. Though sweet green basil is the most available variety, there is a spicy basil that is a bit peppery, and it’s becoming much more popular.

Basil contains vitamin A and K, beta-carotene, potassium, manganese, copper and magnesium. It’s loaded with flavonoids and antioxidants. It has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Buy it fresh, store it at room temperature and use it quickly. Otherwise layer leaves in a jar, sprinkle layers with a bit of salt and then cover with olive oil. Refrigerate for up to 3 months.
