Alternative Proteins

When nutritionists talk about alternative proteins, they are usually referring to protein sources that are not animal-based. When you eat proteins sourced from animals (meat and dairy) you are exposed to saturated fats, which are also called artery-clogging fats. So it’s a great idea to swap out these proteins for some healthier and still tasty choices. You can of course eat fish, with its healthy omega-3 fatty acids, and beans and legumes are some other great protein sources.

Young kids actually love beans, because they are great finger foods. Soybeans or edamame are delicious and fun to pop out of their pods. Other soy food options which provide non-animal proteins include:
Soymilk, tofu, soy vegetable burgers, soy nuts, soy yogurt and cheeses, textured soy protein.

So try and go meat free a couple of times a week and boost your health by reducing your consumption of saturated fat.
