“Get a pedometer,” says Dr. Oz

in

You may think you are an active walker, but the true way to determine how many steps you take daily is to wear a pedometer which will accurately reflect your daily walking tally. The current goal is 10,000 steps daily and unless you are pretty active on the job (a messenger by foot, a professional athlete) you may fall woefully short of that milestone. Many studies have associated use of a pedometer with boosting activity. It’s a device that keeps track of your steps objectively, and it will help to inspire goal setting.

Use a pedometer and it will likely force you to get up and move around, especially if you mostly sit at your job. Run stairs, walk to lunch and back, walk to work when possible, and shop less frequently so you really walk the store when you purchase food. Studies show that one big exercise effort in the morning or evening is great, but then sitting for many hours without any physical activity while you work a desk job, can still put your health at risk. So get moving throughout the day.
