Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service

As part of the ServiceNation Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, HealthCorps Coordinators and students nationwide marked the birth of the civil rights leader by giving back to their community through service. In Arizona, Coordinators and students volunteered at St. Mary’s Food Bank. In California, they helped at the Venice Beach Boys and Girls Club. In Miami they helped with a blood drive. In Palm Beach, they helped build a home with Habitat for Humanity and volunteered at Urban Youth Impact and Literacy AmeriCorps Palm Beach. In Tampa, they helped at America’s Second Harvest of Tampa Bay feeding organization. In Mississippi, they helped at the Senior Rehab Center. In New Jersey, they helped prepare healthy lunches at the Discovery Charter School. In New York City, some helped at St. Nicholas Senior Center, some re-painted Public School 75, some helped man the phones at the Clinton Foundation to answer questions about Haiti, some volunteered at the appropriately-named Martin Luther King Jr. High School, some volunteered at the City Youth Conference, and some helped at a community garden on E. 46th Street in Manhattan. Coordinator Melissa Jennings traveled from Cleveland to Detroit to volunteer at Osborne High School. In Bryn Athyn, Pa., they traveled to Philadelphia to help out a Baptist Church. In Lower Moreland, Pa., they traveled to Norristown to help at the Greater Norristown Police Athletic League.
