Cliffside Park High School
At Cliffside Park High School, Mr. Jones' woodshop classes built four garden beds that are now outside in the courtyard. On Wednesday, May 11, after school, HealthCorps® club installed a breathable fabric lining on the bottom of the beds so that when it rains, water can run out of the beds with minimal loss of soil and mess. The donated soil was dumped in the courtyard, and the next day HealthCorps club shoveled it all into beds! This took some serious muscle, because of the size of the pile of dirt, but it was fun to play in the dirt on a beautiful sunny afternoon.
Last Monday, HealthCorps hosted a health fair at Middle School. Cliffside Park Senior Health Classes ran the booths on the big day.
On Thursday, May 12, Josh Wood arranged to have a segment for The Dr. Oz Show taped in Mr. Danho's 7th period class. They did an experiment with pedometers to see how much students walk in 24 hours. The kids had a blast with the filming, and now Josh is in the process of collecting paperwork and pedometers for the producers of the show. Josh looks forward to seeing the show air. He is thrilled this went smoothly, and definitely happy for all the students’ excitement.
